National Burns Awareness Day 2025

News

23 October 2025

This National Burns Awareness Day, we support the British Burn Association, urging households to prevent burns with working smoke alarms and connected fire safety solutions.

At FireAngel, we’re proud to support National Burns Awareness Day, led by the British Burn Association, taking place on Wednesday 15th October 2025. Today highlights how quickly burns and scalds can happen – and how important it is that every household is prepared to prevent and respond to fire-related incidents.

Burns can happen to anyone, anytime

Every year, thousands of people across the UK experience burns and scalds, with many incidents happening right at home. Worryingly, 1 in 4 households don’t have a working smoke alarm, leaving millions at greater risk. Early detection is one of the most effective ways to prevent injuries and save lives – a working alarm provides vital time to escape, and a connected system can extend that protection even further, ensuring no warning goes unheard.

Giving you precious extra seconds

Our ProConnected range links smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms throughout your home. This means if one alarm sounds, they all sound – alerting you to danger on average 7 seconds earlier than a standard smoke alarm. Those extra seconds can make a critical difference in safely evacuating and reducing the severity of burns or fire-related injuries.

Whether it’s a kitchen fire, an electrical fault, or an unexpected hazard elsewhere in the home, a connected alarm system ensures you and your loved ones are alerted quickly, wherever you are.

Take action this National Burns Awareness Day

For National Burns Awareness Day we don’t want to just raise awareness, we want to inspire action. We’re encouraging every household to:

  • Test smoke alarms monthly to ensure they’re working properly.
  • Install smoke and heat alarms for whole-home protection.
  • Be mindful of burn and scald risks in kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Educate family members, especially children, on what to do in the event of a fire.

Treating burns

If someone does get burnt, remember the three C’s.

Cool the burn under cool running water for at least 20 minutes, removing all clothing and jewellery (unless melted or stuck).

Call for help – dial 999 for emergencies or 111 for non-emergency medical advice.

Cover the burn loosely with cling film or a sterile, non-fluffy dressing or cloth to protect the area.

Together, we can reduce the risk of burns

By combining awareness, education and reliable fire safety technology, we can all play a part in preventing burns and protecting homes. Please join us in supporting the British Burn Association and take a moment this National Burns Awareness Day to ensure your home is equipped with the right safety precautions.
